Fat Brain Toy Co. Wins Accolades From Three Industry Awards

Fat Brain Toy Co. Receives Spring 2007 National Parenting Seals of Approval, Excellent Products iParenting Media, Dr. Toy Best Products Awards

Elkhorn, NE (May 16, 2007) - Some educational toy companies never create products that get honored with awards. For other companies, it takes several attempts before they get any official feathers in their caps. And that is why Fat Brain Toy Co. is incredibly proud to announce that their very first products, The Learning Calendar and Dado Cubes have just garnered National Parenting Center, iParenting Media Excellent Products Awards and a Dr. Toy Best Products--Spring 2007 award.

The Learning Calendar, which retails for $14.99, includes 365 historical events featured on the date they actually occurred. It also includes dozens of entertaining activity ideas and questions to make learning fun, while the colorful graphics to bring each event to life. Fat Brain Toy Co.'s Learning Calendar is a great educational tool not only for the classroom or homeschool, but also for the office to keep busy execs and trivia enthusiasts on their toes. The judges at The National Parenting Center agreed:

"When it comes to calendars that you absolutely must have hanging on your wall, this one takes the cake. Our testers loved this remarkable calendar that they describe as brilliantly designed. The Learning Calendar is chock full of superbly presented information that feels like you are taking a trip through an entire encyclopedia. Each month is filled with a potpourri of historic and less famous moments in history. If you home school your children, you will want to start your day with a glance at this calendar. Our old Garfield calendar is looking pretty shabby right about now."

And the reviewers at iParenting Media Awards lauded the calendar as well: "The most positive characteristic of this product is that it is easy to use and you learn something new each day. I think it is great how the facts are tied to each specific day. This would be a great addition to many classrooms. It is fun to see what the new fact is each day. I also really liked that the answers to the questions are right there on the calendar."

Dado Cubes combine art and science as kids of all ages explore architectural principles including: proportion, balance, structure and color. A new twist on classic building blocks, Dado Cubes engage the imagination as the slits on each cube are interlocked to create an unlimited number of three-dimensional structures. Constructed horizontally, vertically or nested together, Dado Cubes invite visual spatial development and problem solving through design centered, attention-grabbing fun.

The National Parenting Center reviewers had this to say about the Dado Cubes:

"Building blocks get a real makeover with Dado Cubes from Fat Brain. These colorful interlocking blocks give builders of all ages a free form set with which they can build, stack and break down to their hearts content. There are no rules or specific instructions, just your own innate sense of balance and design. The ability of Dado Cubes to be as equally appealing to preschoolers as it is to their parents really impressed us. For a game made of blocks the odd thing is how it makes you think outside of the box."

And at iParenting Media Awards, reviewers cited Dado Cubes for the following features:

  • The bright colored blocks are lots of fun to play with. You can use your imagination to create different abstract structures. You can make the examples on the package or try to create your own clever ideas.
  • I loved this toy. The colors were fresh and fun. The shapes were distinct and modern. It had all the feel of a piece of art - but a kid's toy too. We actually still have it out and stacked on our coffee table!
  • I have to admit that when I first saw this toy, I didn't think it would be very versatile, but within minutes the children came up with so many ways of using the cubes that all I can say is... THEY PROVED ME WRONG!!! They enjoyed the balancing of bigger cubes on smaller cubes, nesting, and stacking! Very fun!

And finally, Dr. Toy included Dado Cubes on her 2007 Best Products List--Spring 2007, and honor she says she reserves for the best of the best.

The National Parenting Center was founded in July of 1989 with the intention of providing the most comprehensive and responsible parenting advice to parents everywhere. The advice provided is furnished by some of the world's most respected authorities in the field of child rearing and development.

The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval program was created in 1990 as an adjunct to The National Parenting Center's support services. It identifies the finest products and services being marketed to the parent/child audience. From educational and entertainment products and equipment to travel destinations, the consumer oriented testing process solicits evaluations from parents and their children. This award signifies to other parents that their peers have acknowledged a product's quality and desirability based on a wide variety of determining factors.

To be considered for an iParenting Media Award, each company submitted four identical samples of each product, which were then precisely matched within iParenting's database of hundreds of experienced reviewers using iParenting's state-of-the-art technology. An expert, a childcare setting and a family reviewed the products and submitted a thorough evaluation of each item. Results were compiled and submitted to the iParenting Media Executive Committee for final approval. The end result of this comprehensive process is a list of award-winning products families can feel confident in purchasing for their loved ones.

The evaluation process created by the iParenting Media Awards program is so thorough it has attained ISO 9001:2000 Certification; from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO is the world's largest developer of standardization regulations, and ISO 9001:2000 is an internationally recognized standard of quality assurance. Only a fraction of the companies that attempt this certification achieve it.
