Fat Brain Toy Co. Sets Its Sights On Developing Skills For The 21st Century

ELKHORN, NE - July 24, 2006 - They're just toys. Or are they? Fat Brain Toy Co., a designer and developer of educational toys based in Elkhorn, Nebraska, doesn't think so. With a keen eye and ear on educational experts, the company resolves that toys can inspire important work.

On a mission to create toys that will positively influence children for a lifetime, Fat Brain Toy Co. takes a new track in toy development - closely aligning the toys they conceive with the latest in educational research. One such toy, Dado Cubes™, is being readied for launch at the San Francisco International Gift Fair, August 5th-8th.

A deceptively ingenious system of interlocking, scaled cubes, Dado™ offers millions of combinations and problem solving opportunities. Dado Cubes™ solidly supports the latest research in the importance of the relatively new field of visual-spatial learning.

Children with profuse visual-spatial intelligence develop a keen eye for form, design, color, size, shape, and space. They also possess the uncanny ability to identify patterns and connect seemingly unrelated concepts.

"There is no doubt classic building blocks are a powerful visual-spatial toy. We've taken it a step further by enhancing the scale, color, creative format and design potential. Dado™ is the first of many new toys we'll be introducing with true educational research inspiring their conception," offers Mark Carson, the inventor of Dado™ and Fat Brain Toy Co. President.

"Throughout history, play has been coined 'child's work' for a reason. It has the capacity to truly influence the skills that often define an individual. Dado Cubes™ advance a child's ability to think independently and outside the box," says Carson. "Those are the skills that will play an increasingly larger role in the workplace of the future."

Thomas West, Author of In the Mind's Eye, suggests that in the 21st century employees will require strong visual-spatial skills. "Ready recognition of larger patterns, intuition, a sense of proportion, imaginative vision, the original and unexpected approach, and the apt connection between apparently unrelated things..."

"In the not too distant future...we must learn to develop distinctly human talents, and these are likely to involve the insightful and broadly integrative capacities associated with visual-spatial modes of thought." --Thomas G. West, In the Mind's Eye, Prometheus Books, 1997.

Without question, the greatest minds of the future will be those with the predestination to think their way around, through, over and under problems. "We are hoping Dado™, inspired by the growing interest in visual-spatial learning, will be leading the way to revolutionize 21st century play," adds Carson.
